Services
Electrical Design
Electrical Design services include Preliminary Design Reports, Drawings & Technical Specifications, QA/QC, Technical Memoranda, Workshops and Bid Services.
EDCS is a skilled electrical design firm accomplished in all aspects of electrical distribution/utilization for medium voltage, low voltage, and Class II and III signal systems. EDCS provides design for standby systems with generators, UPS systems, automatic transfer switches and other secondary sources. EDCS has designed alternative energy power sources including photovoltaic cells, biogas fueled turbines, micro turbines, and reciprocating engine generators. EDCS also has extensive experience in interacting with local utilities and understands the language of code officials.
EDCS electrical design services include incoming service coordination with the utility (load letters, service entrance disconnects, distribution from medium voltage down through low voltage). Emergency power design includes both uninterruptable power supply (UPS) and/or generators (natural gas and diesel), along with automatic transfer switch integration into the main service distribution. Lighting design as well as receptacle layout are frequently included in our electrical design scope.
Arc Flash and Short Circuit Studies
EDCS is proficient at performing all manner of electrical system studies, including: Arc Flash, Load Flow, Short Circuit, and Equipment Evaluations. EDCS provides plan review and site survey services to determine the input data required for the study. Once surveyed and verified, EDCS will provide the appropriate analysis of the data and suggest ways to optimize the distribution system for optimal performance. We will provide Arc Flash label formats and locations, equipment evaluation and modification suggestions, and optimized protective relay settings.
EDCS staff have completed arc flash/short circuit studies that included multi-hundred bus points, evaluation from the incoming service to the low voltage power panel level. As part of each study there is a coordination study to identify out-of-range breaker settings and to indicate proper settings to relieve the out-of-range points.
Electrical Assessments
Assessment services include Vulnerability & Risk, Feasibility Study, Power Study, Short Circuit Analysis and Master Electrical Plan.
EDCS staff are experienced in the evaluation of existing electrical infrastructure, having performed vulnerability and risk assessments of electrical and control systems for water and wastewater treatment facilities. These have ranged from small pump stations to entire water reclamation districts. In most cases, these involved review of existing plants and histories, on-site visits at facilities, and discussions of condition with operating staff.
Evaluations are completed using an in-house developed check list to include incoming feed sources through medium voltage distribution down to the low voltage level. The assessment considers useful life remaining on existing equipment, investigation of replacement parts availability, and how the equipment could be replaced with minimal downtime. Assessments are formalized into a report, which includes single-line drawings, evaluation of equipment and any risks associated with the existing infrastructure. These reports can then be used for development of operating procedures, remedial designs, or full project plans.
EDCS also performs assessments on DCS and SCADA systems. Evaluation of these system security through the head-end to the last PLC used for controlling process systems.
Sustainable Infrastructure
Sustainable services include Energy Audits and Renewable Design.
EDCS has long been a sustainable designer. Historically, the best designs were inherently sustainable from an efficiency and economic standpoint. EDCS’ core areas of Water and Wastewater Treatment are inherently green in design from the start. We have developed biogas treatment facilities, and used the gas to generate heat and electricity, also generators using turbine and reciprocating engines. EDCS staff have also designed solar powered photovoltaic installations for grid connection in both rural and urban environments.
CAD Drafting
CAD services include high quality drawing creation in multiple platforms using client standards.
EDCS’s drafting team is well versed in 2D and 3D drafting. Our drafting is nimble enough to adapt to many different drafting standards as defined by our clients, and able to be incorporated x-references from multiple disciplines. We are also prepared to create as-built drawings from contractor red-lines.
EDCS takes the extra step at the beginning of the project to understand the client’s list of CAD standards and procedures. Strict adherence to standards is the utmost importance to ensure the quality and appearance of EDCS’ drawings will integrate into the entire team’s set of drawings seamlessly. We value one-on-one communication with the project managers to ensure the creation of the best drawings possible.
Instrumentation Design
Instrumentation can assist with measuring and control of process variables.
Our team has years of experience utilizing various instrumentation to implement process control. Having worked in multiple industries, we can assist in determining the best instrumentation to utilize for each application. We focus on meeting the design challenges in a wide variety of applications.
Construction Services
Construction Services include Shop Drawing Review, Site Visits, Status Meetings, Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs), Commissioning, Punch lists and As-Built Drawings.
EDCS realizes that our responsibilities do not stop at the end of design, they continue into construction and commissioning. We have extensive experience in all aspects of construction services; shop drawing reviews, site visits, RFI responses, construction meetings, factory acceptance testing, commissioning, punch lists, and as-built drawings. We are proficient in several different construction management software types used by our various clients. Our team is excited to see your project through to operation.
Controls Design
Control services include Network Topologies, Communication Infrastructure, DCS & PLC Specification, Instrumentation Layout and Specification, P&IDs and Process Flow Diagrams.
EDCS’ SCADA, DCS and PLC design, implementation, and cyber security experience varies in range from the replacement of a single PLC through a full distributed control system (DCS). Big or small, we start every design the same way, we ask the client what the end goal is, what future upgrades may be in store, how the control system is going to be used and by whom. Once this has been discussed and understood, we move forward with selection of the appropriate technologies to fit the requirements and goals set by the client.
